Hello,
I am Frank, founder of the GraXpert Team. Our Team has now officially released the Version 2.0 with AI functionality. Also GraXpert AI is now available as a script in PixInsight, so you can use it directly out of PI. I have created a video to show you the installation on Mac and PC, as well as the installation of the script.
Have Fun

I could not get it to work within PI. I can get it to open outside of PI but even after I added the link in your video, I get an error message- You must setup the path to GraxPert first using the wrench icon.

Thanks, Frank. But I now have another problem. I followed your direction about the wrench, it started to open and then froze. I did have the older version on PI before but I removed it before starting over. After trying to close it, the GraXpert icon remained on my computer and I had to reboot to remove it.

Not sure if I got you. You are saying you PI Version is older? We cant´t be sure that the script works well with older versions. Try to update PI and try again. If this doesnt work, i will forward it to the developers. Hope thats ok for you. Cheers Frank

No- PI is up to date and runs just fine. I deleted the older version of GraXpert labelled 2022.

Hi Bruce, I can see in the Console Window a message saying: AI Version not found. Did you follow exactly the steps in the Video from Top to Bottom? Please try again from the start, watch the video from the start and follow all instructions please. I think you have not downloaded the AI, which is mandatory. Its explained in the video.
Cheers Frank

Hi Frank
OK- I started from the beginning and now it runs in PI and it appears to change/remove the gradient. There is still one difference from your video that I am getting........
It may be hard to read but I get a statement saying, "MainProcess tensorflow WARNING No training configuration found in save file, so model was *not* compiled."
It then continues and does its thing. I'm not sure if this is specific to my computer or if I did something else wrong.
I appreciate your patience. Bruce |

CS Jeff I get the same. It does not seem that the functionality is affected though. Background extraction seems to be performed as expected.

Hi Frank,
thanks for all the effort you and the graxpert team have invested. I followed your instructions and it works well and somehow magically.
I am interested in how it works with the AI part. I know that AI and machine learning are somehow black boxes, but it would be interesting to learn the principles of the learning process.
Unfortunately, I did not find any information. So, is there any documentation going into more details than saying AI is applied?
Any link will be welcome.
Thanks in advance

Thomas Rox Hi Thomas,
we will update our documentation to fully explain what we did and which data we used. But thats all a lot of work. Hopefully we can do this until the end of the year. Basically we did the following. We used tensorflow as the framework for our AI, so thats a convolutional neural network. We then used Graxpert in its former version to create images with and without gradients. In most cases we used the RBF algorithm, that was very sucessfully in GraXpert 1.0. We trained the network with those before and after images. So we can say, the network learned how to create backround models like the RBF algorithm does. As soon, as the AI creates the Model, its simply subtracted from the original image. Thats how it works in a nutshell.
Cheers Frank
