Description

NGC-5866 is a 10.7 magnitude lenticular galaxy in Draco.  This galaxy is now generally accepted to be M-102, which for many years was a famous "missing" Messier object.  Research has determined that, based on the descriptions of both Messier and Pierre Mechain, NGC-5866 was originally recorded as M-102, but with incorrect coordinates.  Also visible in this image, at the left edge, is a 16th magnitude elliptical galaxy that is less than 1/2 arc minute in diameter.
