Description

My first astro image with a color camera.  The comet was low over the horizon and haze took over after only 20 minutes of capture.  I had no opportunity to get data while tracking on the stars, so the stars aren't great.  Nevertheless, I got enough data to get some cool detail of the blueish ion tail and dust tail, complete with a broken off segment.  I'll take it!

Imaging the comet with a color camera and its subsequent processing was a treat.  With a mono camera, I shoot RGBs tracking on the comet (a TheSkyX feature), LRGBs tracking on the stars at short exposures, and if there were DSOs in the shot, deeper LRGBs tracking on the stars.  That's 11 sets of data, and don't get me started on processing.  I bought the ZWO ASI2600MC just for comets, but I suspect I'll be using it for DSOs soon enough.

Getting 12P was a prize.  It has been a Venusian sky here for weeks, and I think I may have gotten the last moon-free chance around here.  Most of its Earthly visit at mag 5 or better and *another* galaxy season has passed me by above the cloud deck.  Darn jet stream.  The thing isn't back for another 72 years, so I had to be vigilant and be ready to pack my stuff and get up to that hill near me that gives me the northwest horizon.  I don't like approaching this sport as "bagging" objects, but I had to get what I could get, in the little window I could get it.  My effort paid off with my humble picture.
