Description

I was capturing a bunch of planetary nebulas on 10/29/2023 and noticed a strange streak on my stack of the Crystal Ball nebula.  Upon inspection of the subs, I saw a faint star that moved.  So I stacked a series of 10 minute frames (each offset by 5 minutes) to create this video.  Live star charts confirmed that 60km wide asteroid 671 Carnegia was predicted to cross in front of NGC 1514 on that night at exactly that time.  The asteroid orbits between Mars and Jupiter and was approximately 200 million miles from Earth at this time.

You can also see a band of high clouds quickly pass by during the video over this 3.25 hour period of time.
