Description

M101 is 21 million light years from Earth, about 10 times farther than the Andromeda Galaxy (2.5 million light years). Comparing to the Andromeda which has a tight and symmetrical disk, M101 is an asymmetrical spiral galaxy with open arms. The data was actually taken few months ago, but I was not happy with the processed image. Here I tried a few PixInsight tricks I learned from working on the Heart Nebula and M31 projects. Since M101 has a large H-II region, it would be interesting to add Ha data to the image. I'll leave that for my next project.
