Description

This image is from August 20, 2023. I intended to do a test to see how quickly I can get going observing the sun and didn't plan on doing any imaging. But I looked through the eyepiece and counted about 10 prominences visually so I had to run in and grab my camera. I can get up and running in just a few minutes, check out the video where I talk about that here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdMyOYqru2I

I count 16 prominences around the sun and a bunch of filaments facing us. There are some stacking artifacts on the bottom. And I didn't take any flats, thus the very noticeable Newton rings. Let me know if you count the prominences differently.

Equipment used:
  • Lunt 40
  • Sky-Watcher SolarQuest
  • ZWO ASI120MM-Mini
  • FireCapture
  • 2-panel mosaic consisting of two 400 frame stacks
  • Stacked in AutoStakkert!3 and processed in imppg (tone curve and deconvolution) and Photoshop (colorization)
