Description

At -45 latitude, you have to be quick to catch Orion over the summer months.  As a limber-up exercise, I decided to experiment with a short Ha-4-panel mosaic of Orion at first quarter moon in the 5 hours of semi-darkness available to me.   Binning up by Nikon 200m f/2 system [F1 speed] I was able to capture this image in 4.hours after the cloud disappeared.

This image rather looks like a cloud scape illuminated by a heavily enshrouded moon.  All the Orion DSOs are there, including to my surprise the WitchHead.  This part of the mosaic only received 30mins of subs, so it was good to see the Witch show her head with such a short exposure. It does make me want to explore a bit more widely to see what else pops out in Ha with this fast system.

Apologies to my AB friends for only posting a single passband image, but I though it was quite atmospheric.  Also perhaps a little different from some of the other [but still outstanding] Orion images being posted over this season.
