Description

I shot Whale+Hockey Stick with my main rig and NP101 and thought I'd try to grab M101 and its supernova with my smaller Skywatcher Star Adventurer GTI and AT60.

I could have gotten a much better shot with the NP101 of M101, but I wanted Whale+Hockey Stick more.  So that rig took precedence...and my sole ASIAair.  So I had to shoot the GTI + AT60 unguided using my Nikon D5300.

Shooting unguided wasn't even close to the worst part, which was the camera battery's charge.  More specifically, lack thereof.  Just one bar.  I totally forgot to charge the battery before leaving the house.  Unguided, low charge...this wasn't good.

I was about to give up on it but decided to shoot anyway, hoping I'd get at least enough time to show the supernova.  After 10 subs went by, I started to manually dither to lower walking noise.

SOMEHOW I ended up with 83 x 30-sec subs.  It's not a great image, but at least a passable one.
