Description

DEEP SPACE OBJECT
THE EAGLE NEBULA | THE OMEGA NEBULA
- deep space object RGBHOO, 250mm
- Constellation Serpens
- Emission Nebula, Open starcluster

Old data from 2021 reprocessed with current knowledge of image processing. Distorted version, RGB combined with DuoNB, stars in RGB.

The Eagle Nebula Messier 16 or IC 4703 is a nebula associated with an open star cluster. It is located in the constellation of the Serpent and is about 7000 light years away from the sun in the Sagittarius spiral arm of the Milky Way. The Eagle Nebula is an emission nebula (type H II) from which an open star cluster forms. It consists mainly of hydrogen, which was able to combine to form hydrogen molecules due to the low temperature. The nebula, which is about 20 light years across, contains dust columns that are up to 9.5 light years long and at the top of which are new stars, which is why they have been christened the Pillars of Creation. M16 is also known as the “Star Queen Nebula”

The Omega Nebula (also known as Messier 17 or NGC 6618, rarely also Swan Nebula or Horseshoe Nebula) is an emission nebula in the northern part of the constellation Sagittarius. It is also located in the Sagittarius spiral arm, about 6000-7000 light years from our sun.
