Description

LDN 1235, also known as the Shark Nebula, is a dark cloud of gas and dust in the constellation of Cepheus. It has a shape that resembles a shark and spans about 15 light-years. Within LDN 1235, there are two blue reflection nebulae, vdB149 and vdB150, that are illuminated by nearby stars of spectral type B8IV. The light from this nebula is produced by a process called photoluminescence, which occurs when the dust particles are hit by high-energy UV radiation. The Shark Nebula is a faint and challenging object for astrophotography, as it is almost colorless and difficult to distinguish from the background sky.
