Description

On a night where the forecast was not good enough for DSO astrophotography, but decent for observation, I decided to get out my Dobsonian telescope for some quick viewing of the planets between the clouds.  After observing for about 10 minutes I started asking myself "Should I try imaging these?"  So I attached my DSLR to the telescope and took single-frame shots and 60-90 second videos.

This compilation of Jupiter and Saturn shows single-frame photos on the left, and stacked/processed video images on the right.  I simply aimed the telescope slightly ahead of the planets and captured them as they moved through the field of view.  This is a great example of how complicated setups/gear aren't needed to capture fun images of our planets!
