Description

This project has taken a month to complete on account of a pretty active Arizona monsoon season. I managed to dodge dust storms and clouds and collect enough data with the Evostar 80ED to see how the result might differ from my previous effort with my Zenithstar 61. This time I also had a couple of new tools that helped a lot. First and foremost is my new ZWO AM5 mount. There have been plenty of positive reviews on this mount and my experience echoes the rave reviews. A guiding range of 0.28" to 0.65" for 1,000 second exposures has made me a very happy camper!

I also purchased a Baader Varilock adjuster which helped me dial in my back spacing. The last 2 sessions of my Oiii data incorporated a new Antlia 2.8nm Oiii filter. I noticed a nice improvement over the Optilong 6.5nm Oiii filter and based upon these results, I'll probably look to upgrade my Ha and SII filters in the near future. I debated about discarding my Optilong 6.5nm Oiii data and reshooting more with the Antlia filter but decided that I wanted to move onto a new project. I want to see how the AM5 handles my EdgeHD 8.
