Description

NGC 7129 is a reflection nebula and stellar nursery located in the constellation Cepheus and is about 3,300 light years away from Earth.

The nebula is illuminated by a young open cluster of stars that are less than a million years old.   The cluster contains at least 130 stars. The nebula's color comes from the scattering of starlight by gas and dust.
The dust grains on the surface of the nebula are heated by the light from the stars, which produces a blue hue with a rosy pink background.

NGC 7129 is about 10 light years across. Astronomers believe that our own sun may have formed billions of years ago in a cluster similar to the one in NGC 7129. Observations of NGC 7129 will help astronomers understand how stellar nurseries shape the development of planetary systems.

This image is only 3 hours of data.  Significantly more data is needed and will be captured during my next opportunity.

This image is 19 hours of data. This increased data brought out the pink hues and much more of the blue reflection through the surrounding space.
