Description

The Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) is a dwarf irregular galaxy near the Milky Way and is visible from the Southern Hemisphere. The estimated distance is only 200,000 light years away from us. Which is quite close in astronomical terms. This HOO image of the SMC reveals a treasure trove of objects consisting of open clusters, globular clusters & nebulae. The most notable being NGC 346, which consists of an open cluster & associated nebula (the largest greenish cloud of nebulosity visible in this image). In addition, there seems to be quite a lot of Hydrogen Alpha scattered around and it  almost paints the entire image in red.
