Description

There was a small break in the clouds, but not long enough to justify setting up the normal rig. Vega appeared in a hole in the clouds. I also wanted to test the Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS lens. I bought this lens for regular photography without any expectations I would use it for astrophotography. This image was untracked with 2 second exposures to avoid star trailing. The focal length was approximately 70mm,  the focal ratio was 4.5, and the ISO was 1600 to compensate for the short exposure time. I used autofocus and there was no filter. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the star images, especially their roundness. Some night I will use this lens with the tracker on a better target to see what it can really do.
