Description

Sill imaging with my Vixen ED103S.  Spent the past two nights imaging C19 (IC 5146) or The Cocoon Nebula.  Was hoping to image M20, Triffid Nebula, but there is a hill on the south side of my view and it just does not get high enough to image from my Phoenix property.  The Cocoon Nebula is nice too. It's getting difficult to shoot in Phoenix.  The days are heading into triple digits again and last night shooting the last round of subs for this project I could not get autofocus to work in NINA.  I was thinking at first it was because there was an update to the Hocus Focus plugin but then I realized I was shooting about 35 degrees up for focus and the culprit was the heat waves causing disturbances in the image.  I can point up but the writing on the wall is pretty clear that the summer furnace is here and time to just image up in Overgaard for the next few months.  It's typically 20 degrees cooler up there all the time from Phoenix and the evenings always cool down quite a bit all year around.

Processed this with 258 x 160" subs.  I used the exposure optimization plugin in NINA with my SharpCap analysis of my ASI071MC camera.  That came back with the 160" exposures to optimize SNR across the subs.  I think that worked pretty good actually.  Looking at getting a Berlebach Uni-28 tripod for my Vixen setup in Overgaard.  I have a NYX-101 Strain Wave mount coming in about a month.  That coupled with the Berlebach should make for a good stable portable setup.
