Description

Well I purchased Adam Block's "Stretch Academy" course, and have been taking the time to really understand the underlying concepts of processing astro images. Understanding exactly what stretching is, how it works, and how to manipulate a histogram using many different techniques proves to be really valuable - who would've thought! I employed some of the techniques from the course for this image and I think (I hope) it shows. I am still learning and have a long way to go but this image is a step in the right direction. There is some cyan-colored noise in the background that I need to figure out how to remove.

This is a SHO image using different blending techniques I learned from Stretch Academy. I don't remember the exact blending combination I used, but it was something similar to this in PixelMath:

R = (Sii * 1.5) + (Ha * .2)
G = (Ha * .3) + (Oiii * 1.5)
B = Oiii

This gave me a nice orange color that I thought was fitting since it is the "Flame" nebula after all. Since the Flame does not have a very strong Oiii signal, I tried to grab some Blue as I saw someone else on this site do something similar. The B signal was stronger and had some nice details, but I ultimately decided to toss the ~5 hours as I couldn't find a great way to blend it. Maybe I'll take another stab at it some other time.
