Description

"Specifically, we conclude that the remnant’s gross morphology is due to the supernova’s blast wave encountering a large molecular cloud off to its west giving rise to NGC 6960, smaller discrete clouds off to the east and northeast resulting in NGC 6992, NGC 6995, and IC 1340, and relatively dense clouds to the northwest resulting in Pickering’s Triangle and neighbouring nebulae. Although X-ray abundance data suggests the Cygnus Loop is the remnant of a high-mass progenitor star, there is no need to propose a wind-driven cavity to explain the remnant’s low-density interior but relatively dense emission limbs-"

I was finally able to process this spectacular nebula...I remember well when I was able to see it for the first time directly on camera, it was a great emotion.

The data was collected by Maurizio during the months of August and September of last year, as well as the Eastern Veil but has not been processed yet.

Two filters the Extreme and L-Pro were used. The data obtained with the Extreme was processed both in DSS and in Siril obtaining the normal stack, but additionally with Siril the [OIII] and Ha were extracted to later combine them with the Green channel of the RGB and to get a little out of the typical I tried to do it with a Hubble palette 'type' colorization although there was no emphasis on showing yellows/golds in the image.

The stars were obtained from the stack made with the L-Pro filter. No star reduction was made, only 60% of the layer has been placed. In the stars I use four different types of layers, one with the Screen blending mode, another with Lighten, another with Linear Dodge (Add) and another Soft Light. With those four layers I regulate the intensity of the stars.

For the combination of the channels, the method of Thomas Edward Christian was used, described in his videos. Then Ha was added as luminance.

An observation for those who use StarExterminator: in the Veil Nebula I noticed that some filaments of the nebula were taken as stars (because of their brightness) and disappeared. So I had to rescue some of them...

The process was easy but some noise was a problem to deal as the balance of colors.  Not sure if it was ok done.

Without a doubt, the number of filaments that the nebula has is impressive, as well as the gas that surrounds it like a subtle veil. Is magnificent-  We hope you enjoy it.
