Arp 273 is a pair of interacting galaxies, 300 million light years away in the constellation Andromeda. It was first described in the Atlas of Peculiar Galaxies, compiled by Halton Arp in 1966. The larger of the spiral galaxies, known as
UGC 1810, is about five times more massive than the smaller galaxy. It has a disc that is tidally distorted into a
rose-like shape by the gravitational pull of the companion galaxy below it, known as
UGC 1813. The smaller galaxy shows distinct signs of active star formation at its nucleus, and "it is thought that the smaller galaxy has actually passed through the larger one." [Source:

The image was processed based on free level 3 calibrated data provided by the Hubble Space Telescope archive made available through the Mikulski Archive for Space Telescopes (
MAST). The data has been gathered back in 2010-12-17 with the Wide Field Camera 3 (
WFC3) using the UVIS imaging trail and released 2011-05-27. Three stacks have been used to compose the final image: 9600 seconds 390 nm (
f390w), 6400 seconds 475 nm (
f475x) , and 5200 seconds 600 nm (
f600lp). Almost 6 hours with this great space telescope.
The image will not plate solve because even with GaiaDR3 only 3 objects can be identified in the small field of view: UGC 1810, UGC 183, and Gaia DR2 332053512318066944
