Description

This image of NGC7822 was taken with Halpha, SII and OIII narrowband filters and processed with the SHO color palette. A tone mapping was applied in rawtherapee to enhance contrast in the dust patches. They are beautiful and it is really worth zooming in a on them.

What is very special to me about this image is that it is the first image with absolutely round and sharp stars up to all corners of the image. Thats why I present this image uncropped. The amount of detail and sharpness is mind-blowing.

To achieve this it took me four clear nights of six hours each to fine-tune the backfocus and tilt of my image train. Several times I was about to give up on my Epsilon due to yet another unexpected setback. I really hope now that I understand my telescope. And now that it is done, I will never touch the focuser again and hope the setting will last for many more beautiful images. BTW: Gerd Neumanns camara tilting unit CTU XL was a great help.

Title: stars subtracted with starnetv2

Description: With then new version of starnet, star subtraction works much better. There is a Linux version which runs smoothly. So I tried it on the image of NGC7822. It worked very well. The result can be tone-mapped and smoothed much better.
A very good workflow would probably then be to first subtract the stars, then apply tone-mapping and smoothing on the nebula, and put the stars back afterwards. This will be a project for the snowy weekend.
