Description

The Gecko Nebula LBN 437 lies in the Lizard (Lacerta) constellation. Where else?

LBN 437 is overlapping with the large emission nebula Sh2-126, a portion of which is the red band that crosses horizontally the image.

This is an area of intense star formation confirmed by the presence of several Herbig-Haro objects in the image. Herbig–Haro (HH) objects are bright patches of nebulosity associated with newborn stars. They are formed when narrow jets of partially ionised gas ejected by stars collide with nearby clouds of gas and dust.

Some HH objects are visible here: the prominent X shaped HH 398 and  HH 808, HH 811 and HH 812 are highlited in the annotated version. The close up is published  here.
