Description

Last week up in Overgaard I was doing some double imaging as it was difficult to find something new that I could run the whole evening.  What I did was look for some targets that would work for either the first half of the evening or the last half.  One of the targets I found was this one, NGC4236 or Caldwell 3.  It intrigued me due to both the sparse nature of the galaxy and the dominant collection of blue stars.  I'm use to seeing lots of brown/red bands usually throughout the outer arms of a galaxy.  Not so with this one.  When I got back to Phoenix last weekend I saw that the forecast was for 3 good days in a row of clear nights.  I fired up my C14 Edge HD and got busy collecting subs and managed to get close to 75x300" for a full RGB set over the corse of the 3 days.  Looking at some Hubble images of the central core, those pictures resolve the core as appearing almost as a globular cluster.  Obviously I don't get near that kind of resolution but I was please with what I was able to get over these past few days.
