Description

Off the south-east corner of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) lies the prominent
nebulae field around the famous Tarantula Nebula, NGC 2070. As this area is at the
LMC’s leading edge as it moves through the interstellar media while moving past our
galaxy, the considerable disturbance results in star-forming activity. As a result, a very
large number of catalogued items can be found here. The nebulae are listed in Heinze’s
Catalogue of the LMC’s Nebulae (the N numbers). In addition there are large numbers
of star clusters mostly comprising very young stars, super-bubble nebulae, and supernova
remnants.

The south-east corner of the LMC can be seen at lower right.
