Description

So I definitely bit off more than I could chew with this project. This is a 9 frame mosaic of the Cepheus region shot in LRGB, Ha and O3. I shot this with a tandem rig using an Askar 200 mm f4 paired with an ASI6200 MM pro and a Samyang 135 mm at f4 paired with an ASI2600MC pro. Both were mounted on an AM5. I shot the LRGB data at the Oakland Astronomy club camp out at a Bortle 3/4 site in the Michigan Thumb and the Ha and LExtreme data from my backyard.

The challenges with this image were two fold firstly 9 full frame images make a big file and secondly the closeness to the celestial pole makes lining up the frames a challenge. So there were several cool objects: the dark shark and the fireworks galaxy that just didn't make the cropped image. Anyway what drew me to this was the combination of emission and reflection objects in the FOV from NGC7023 and the Wolfs Cave to the bubble, lion and wizard. Just an amazing patch of sky. I layered my raw data with images I've taken previously including NGC7023 and the squid.

For LRGB this was 6 by 300 s for each frame and then the Ha and Lext data was 18 by 300 s for each frame. I hope you like it I'm frustrated by the gradients I couldn't remove but amazed by the richness of the field of view.

A big thanks to John Murphy who helped me stitch the whole thing together using Photmetric Mosaic 4.0 when I ran into challenges with the earlier version.
