Description

RCW 16, a southern sky nebula, also known as the "shell and skeleton" nebula, taken from a remote telescope in Chile. #TelescopeLive.
The nebula in which the cluster resides is an area where new stars are forming. Its huge clouds of gas and dust decorate young, bright blue stars. Some of them have already emerged from the dense cloud from which they formed and glow with a bright blue light, others remain hidden. Young, hot stars emit huge amounts of ultraviolet radiation, exciting the gas to glow while gradually dissipating the parent cloud. Most of the ultraviolet radiation is emitted by one extremely massive and luminous star. It was its intense radiation that cleansed the surroundings. More stars are formed on the denser outskirts of the cleared area. Info Wiki.
