Description

The Pleiades aka The Seven Sisters; aka Subaru 昴, スバル (Japanese); aka Matariki (Māori); aka Kṛttikā कृत्तिका (Sanskrit); aka 昴 mǎo (Chinese); aka الثريا al-Thurayya (Arabic); aka Makaliʻi (Hawaii)…. almost every culture since the dawn of time has a name for it. It’s one of the brightest star clusters in the sky, visible to the naked eye even in heavily light polluted areas. Prominent stars follow the names of the of the seven sisters in Greek Mythology: Sterope, Merope, Electra, Maia, Taygeta, Celaeno, and Alcyone along with their parents Atlas and Pleione. The Hyades (another very prominent star cluster in Taurus) are sisters to the Pleiades both being daughters of Atlas.

Taken at a Bortle 3 dark site, I'm glad that I withstood the temptation to image this broadband target in my light polluted backyard. It would have taken much longer to achieve the same result. About 28x to be exact.
