Description

The giant (Jupiter) and the dwarf (Moon)

After finally having a clear blue sky here in the Alps yesterday, when all clouds disappeared towards the evening, I set my alarm for 5 am this morning to photograph the Moon's visit to Jupiter.

I woke up around 3:30 am, so I was ready to go early and relaxed. This was good because after taking some shots before the closest approach of the Giant (Jupiter) and the Dwarf (Moon), cloud banks moved in from the main Alpine ridge - remnants of the past night's heat thunderstrom there.

This is a single image which I took just before it became cloudy. I have to say that I like this mood, with the  cloud fragments in front of the crescent moon.
