Description

Sharpless 2-240, Spaghetti Nebula or Simeis 147 is a supernova remnant (SNR) in the Milky Way on the border between the constellations Auriga and Taurus. It was discovered in 1952 by the Astrophysical Observatory of Crimea (Ukraine). SH2-240 is difficult to photograph due to its extremely low surface brightness. Despite the long exposure time of 600 seconds, the single image shows hardly any details. The filigree structures of the nebula are only revealed by stacking many individual images. However, the total integration time of more than 7 hours is not sufficient to show the structures of the nebula in all their beauty.
