Description

A popular target for amateur astronomers. Relatively nearby spiral galaxy viewed almost exactly edge-on, similar to NGC 891. Probably a barred spiral type. The colors transition to distinctly blue at the outer edges, suggesting recent star formation in the arms. There is a large cluster of galaxies in the far distance near the upper right edge of NGC 4565.

Captured with a monochrome camera and L,R,G,B filters. Got L exposures over two nights mid April, with good seeing. Capturing R,G,B exposures was delayed two weeks by full moon, cloudy weather and windy conditions, in succession. Finally got R,G,B exposures over three nights at the end of April and beginning of May, with a mixture of good and poor seeing.

Was hoping to get more L exposures, but never got the chance. Nevertheless, very happy with this result. Especially the sharply resolved "cloud decks", color variation, and other fine details visible across the disk.
