Description

Emission-reflection nebulae IC4603 and IC4604.
Image
The Rho Ophiuchus Emission Nebula (IC4604) is located in the Ophiuchus constellation. It is an emission and reflection nebula. The star 5 rho Oph partially illuminates this nebula and makes it possible to see the nebula in a bluish color. In the image there is a lot of star dust, composed mostly of carbon. When these clouds are denser, they are opaque to visible light and can completely or partially cover the stars. In contrast, less dense clouds have the ability to preferentially reflect the blue light that reaches them. The brightest red tones typically correspond to gas emissions from the nebula. You can also see the IC4603 nebula where in its central part is the star HD 147889 that illuminates this blue reflection nebula.

Processed
The background was processed with a synthetic luminance mask from the signal of the three channels following the SNR criterion to reduce image noise. The stars were processed independently of the background nebulae stretched with GHS (Generalized Hyperbolic Stretch) and a star mask was applied in the G channel of the image.
