Description

M13 Hercules Cluster is a tiny giant: even though only a 1/1000 fraction of the milky way in size and number of stars, its still 500.000 stars and 150 lightyears across.
Globular clusters have depleted all gas and dust and thus its star forming phase, so a huge cluster of stars is circling in a perfect sphere and lacks the violent beauty of star burst areas.
With 12.5 billion years of age they are ancient, yet 1 billion years younger than the universe.
It is not clear why they formed so early, only that they are a key part of each galaxies central bulge that glows around the supermassive black hole.

The image was taken with an 11" SCT in somewhat imperfect seeing condition only using an OSC with a mere UV/IR cut filter.
