Target Description:
Comet Pons-Brooks is a periodic comet 12/Pons-Brooks reached perihelion on April 21, 19 days after this image was taken. I discarded some of the subframes (4) because they showed an enlarged nucleus. They may have captured a real outburst, but did not fit with the other subs to make a coherent "single still image." This comet is known to produce such flare-ups of much greater brightness than the observed effect/event captured in those few subs.

This comet's orbital period is about 71 years, so some of the youngsters among us may see the next time it comes to the inner solar system and some of the oldsters may have seen it the last time it was here.

Processing Description:
Largely following the workflow here. But comets be hard! In this data set, which apparently was not taken under completely dark skies, gradients were strong, colored, and varied from sub to sub. The posted image shows brown 'clouds' in the background. I harbor doubts that those are real. However, if the background were dropped to remove all of those, some of the comet would go with them. So, there they are, whatever they are.
