Description

I present my best effort of the Rho Ophiuchi Nebula Complex, one of the southern skies' winter showstoppers.

This extended nebula complex is just humongous, when I started planning the image I started with 2, then 4 and finally ended up doing a 6 panel mosaic image with the TAK FSQ106 and full frame QHY 600 camera. For me, it was important to get the composition and framing as good as possible, because I really did not want to crop off any of this rich beautiful field of view.

6 panels of separate RGB channels, over an extended imaging time, under pretty average sky conditions made the post process mosaic compilation really difficult.  I must confess I spent hours and hours getting the image to its current state.  I used PixInsight's PhotometricMosaic to compile the mosaic, but really struggled with this particular dataset.  I really must try APP at some stage, specifically for its mosaic functionality, maybe it will be a bit more efficient.

Thanks for looking and clear skies!
