Description

M31, The Andromeda Galaxy, is the quintessential galactic target. M31 is our closest neighboring galaxy at just 2.5 million Light Years away. While relatively close it's very, very large.  It is 152,000 Light Years in diameter. The Andromeda Galaxy presents an interesting challenge from both a focal length and an exposure point of view.  It turns out to be just about perfect framing with my AT72EDII and the ASI533MC camera but without the .8 reducer on the telescope I would have to shoot a mosaic to get it all in. Getting detail while not totally blowing out the core is tricky.  This image is the result of just 3 hours of exposure time. I lost about quite a few subs (about an hour and a half!) due to passing clouds and the havoc they reek on guiding as well obscuring the target. The plan is to get somewhere around 24 hours on this target. Here's hoping for more clear nights!
