Description

After buying a used QHY 183c camera, I decided to use my 8 inch Newton to collect some data of the Iris nebula. Sadly, the telescope was heavily misaligned and my stars appered to be triangular. But for a first light of the new camera, I am really satisfied of how the camera worked with the Newton. The goal is to prepare a setup for the galaxy season and the smaller sensor helps with this. Otherwise I have to crop the images of my ASI294MM which uses nearly the same pixel size but offers a wider FOV. Because of the used Coma corrector I am slightly oversampled. But with the fast Newton this is not a great issue. Of course, I have to realign all mirrors in the Newton. So nothing special, but a starting point...

In comparison to all the other summer subjects which I usually do in narrow band, the Iris nebula is a true RGB target. It felt like it was a great subject to test the 183c. I really like the appearence of the backlit dust clouds. It looks very interesting to me. The diffraction spikes of the center star may not be very charming for everyone out there, but for me, it adds some interest to the final image.
