What was the experience
Abell 85, or “The Popped Balloon Nebula” has been one that was near the top of my wish list ever since I started again with Astrophotography last March 2021. But first, I needed to grow in experience, learn what gear would be required, scope/camera combinations for the right FoV and resolution, gradually learning how to use all the equipment, guiding, imaging, exposure settings, stacking, processing …

It’s been just over 4 months since I started with a ‘small’ scope (RedCat), not even 2 months since I started using the TS94 and PixInsight. All to come to the point to finally chase my balloon and catch it …. Faint, maybe not 100% perfect, but it’s there .. floating in space.

Oh … and as a bonus 😎, the Small Rosette Nebula is in the image as well 🤩
I think I’m getting there 😉

Title: Reprocessing with some improvement in the visibility of the popped balloon

Description: Reprocessing based on the new skills. I felt the original data would contain just a little bit more detail of the Popper balloon. I did throw in some additional data from the same date, however that was severely misaligned, so some artefacts upper-left/lower-right might be visible. It’s debatable whether this revision is actually an ‘improvement’ on the original. I managed to make the popped balloon more ‘visible’, but I’m not too happy about the overall nebulosity and background. Looks very garbled, not sure if that is down to the processing or the original data. Some of the detail in Little Rosetta seems to have suffered as well. Wanted to post this anyway, as I want to get most ‘older’ images reprocessed. -
