Hello everyone, I thought I would open the Northeast imagers group to discuss our frustrations with weather, light pollution, air traffic, air pollution, etc.
Welcome All, Scott

Greetings From south central Connecticut. New Haven skyglow is the bane of my existence, as well as my neighbors' excessively bright driveway lights... >_<

I hear you, Bridgeport light pollution is my main menace, as well as neighbors with excessively bright back yard lights which they like to leave on all night at times. Must be a Connecticut thing to feel the need to light your backyard up all night for no reason what so ever. Or perhaps they're scared of the dark. lol ;) Connecticut needs light pollution laws!!! Yeah right...

Clear Skies, Scott Not really Scott - I'm in a white/red zone so very heavy LP. As of right now we are getting that bad rain system that you may be getting also. The one bad thing was that our clubs star party was for today- Sunday and has been cancelled since this system is going to be here from...TODAY - SUNDAY! Of course, Monday will be beautiful.

Your right about that system reaching us up here as well unfortunately. Mother Nature just loves to torment us astrophotographers I guess. If the weather doesn't stink then we're probably right about at a full moon in the lunar cycle. lol |

Sorry gents, I believe this stuck front maybe my fault. I just completed installing my new Sky Shed POD. I'm afraid we may have 30 days of rain and clouds. I am just at the point of getting my gear into it. Well, atleast I get to check for any leaks.... |

I'm partially to blame also... As I mentioned, my club's star party was to be from yesterday to Sunday. And the weather completely shut us down. I'm new to AP and have been shooting exclusively at my house using AC. The club field does not have electricity so have been buying/building everything needed for a remote DC Power Unit. Battery, box, adapters for everything. As soon as I completed the Box, that's when the first forecast for this weather came in.

My fault too, I just got a new 80ED APO and my first autoguider. I had first light on this past Sunday, got a nice M13 capture, and it's been cloudy since then. Sorry guys! |

Hi I am in. I live in Edison, NJ and just started imaging in January or February. Bought my first telescope last November.
I pretty much keep the scope and mount set up in the backyard all the time with a telegizmo cover on it. It is next to a shed which blocks out a lot of light and I got the town to point the streetlight on the north side away from my backyard. Still, it is northern NJ, what can I say. The light pollution is horrible.

Hello all I'm from Mass just before Cape Cod. I don't think my lp is bad but the map shows that it is. My ZWO ASI1600MC just came in and like most on here rain has yet to stop, I know we need the rain but come now just when I get a new toy. Eric4

I'm another poor unfortunate soul under the clouds and world class light pollution in Southwest Connecticut (Shelton). New York, Bridgeport and New Haven surround me in a veil of light. I took the mount and scope out of my observatory and up to Stellafane in August and havn't had the opportunity and good enough weather to set it back in there again. I was planning on taking it up to the Connecticut star party this weekend but that too is a complete wash. Very frustrating.

Are there any star parties coming up in our area, or is it to late in the year for them.

Eric, absolutely understand. My clubs star party was supposed to be last weekend form Thurs-Sun...AND THATS EXACTLY HOW LONG THE BAD WEATHER STAYED. Monday after...perfect weather. On Monday, my clubs site's weather forecast was for perfectly clear for Tuesday night...was getting ready to go (2 hour drive) and it turned to crap.
For anyone interested, my clubs Star Party was re-scheduled for Oct 27-30. Its the South Jersey Astronomy Club. Their star party field is at the Belleplain State Forest in Woodbine NJ.

While using a Orion ED80T is it better to use a field flattener or focal reducer with a ZWO asi1600mc

Have you ever been to the DVAA star parties? I won't be able to make the next one in November, but I'm planning on attending them again in the Spring.
Also - where do you do your imaging from? I mostly image from my backyard, but my view of the southern sky is rather obstructed. I'd like to find a public place nearby with a view of the south.
