Description

Thanks to the recent span of clear skies this photo is the result of 32 hours of exposure taken over 5 nights. That’s a lot more time than I can usually get, which enables some great detail on this fascinating area. The nebulae were processed in SHO narrowband and blended with LRGB stars.

On the right is the Lobster Claw Nebula (Sharpless 157) - a bright emission nebula. Can you see where it gets it’s name? It lies near the edge of the northern constellation Cassiopeia, bordering on Cepheus.

To the left is the Bubble Nebula, also known as NGC 7635 , Sharpless 162, or Caldwell 11, another emission nebula in the constellation Cassiopeia. The bubble is created by the stellar winds from a massive hot young central star (SAO 20575).
