Description

The Propeller Nebula is an emission nebula and is part of the Cygnus X molecular cloud complex, an area rich in HII. It lies approximately 4600 light years away, roughly in the center of the Deneb, Sadr, & Delta-Cyg stellar triad.  It was originally catalogued in the 1950s by astronomers working at the Simeiz Observatory in the Ukraine as the 57th out of 306 objects they cataloged in the HII region. The DWB catalogue was created in the 1980s by Dickel, Wendker, & Bieritz who cataloged the HII region of the Cygnus X complex. DWB111 refers to the southern arm while DWB119 is the designation for the northern arm.

The final HOO /bi-color image was created using the narrowband normalization process for OSC cameras developed by Bill Blanshan which can be downloaded & installed as a process in PI.
