Description

I decided to go hunting for galaxy clusters. I wrote a little script to run through the PGC galaxy catalogue and look for areas with lots of galaxies, big enough for me to pick up, in a nice compact field of view. This was the target in the Northern Hemisphere with the largest number of galaxies in my script. It turns out that Abell already spotted this one and gave it catalogue number Abell 2245, although I haven't found any pictures of it.

Unfortunately the weather gods didn't play ball: I've got about 1h30 of rgb taken with my RC8 over a number of nights of high cloud and poor seeing, and the year is pretty much over for this target now. I decided to experiment with buying some remote observing time with skygems, and added in 10x600s Luminance subs (taken under clear dark skies with an expensive Planewave CDK500), and merged them into my rgb subs. So here we have 3h with a mixture of CDK500 and RC8, and a pixel scale of 0.22" / Px. This pixel scale is really pushing things, but there are some interesting shaped galaxies in here. Perhaps next year I'll try to image it again with just my own kit.
