Description

I've been working to improve my guiding on my new NYX-101 mount.  Last night was cold and mostly clear in spite of an approaching full moon.  I spent some quality time reading up and experimenting with my setup and Phd2 and I believe I've managed to really get things dialed in much better on my guiding.  Up until now I've been guiding in the 0.8" to 1.2" RMS total error guiding domain but last night I knocked about 30% to 40% off of that and was operating in the 0.6" - 0.8" total RMS error which I have seen many others accomplishing with the NYX but up until now has eluded me.

In looking for a target I found this object on FB from posts others make of the same.  While I'm not seeing any monkey head, the nebula itself is quite beautiful.  I use my Optolong eXtreme NB filter and I think it did a nice job of bringing out the details of the nebula gasses.  This is yet another object, when I get my C14 up and running, that I should be able to get some nicer close up details of the nebula filaments.

In looking at my PA on my NYX I think this is one of the last areas where I can probably get a little more out of my guiding.  The NYX is a tad tricky to do a PA and I'm thinking now that if I do a base NINA 3 star PA to get close but follow up using Phd2 and use it to do a drift alignment I can probably get my PA about as good as possible and that should, hopefully, lock down my guiding to about as good as it can be.  I do have one other thing to try.  The setup is configured with a OAG that at the moment I have not used.  When I get the PA set better with a post drift alignment I plan on trying my OAG and see if that improves things.
