Description

Yesterday evening after weeks of cloudy weather, I had a couple of hours of clear sky and tried immediately to take the first picture with my new equipment.
I got a perfect polar alignment thanks to the iPolar system on the iOptron which is very easy to use and then tried to focus on the moon to see whether I was ok with back focus, spacers and flattener settings. I skipped the alignment procedure of the mount, since I did not have with me the red dot pointer and it wold have taken me too much (was scared the clouds would be back soon ... and they did), so I did the target setting manually (you cannot miss a 80% moon :-)).

Then I tried to get my first image of the moon ... it took a bit to get the focus ... and then tried the first shot.
The picture is taken with a red filter, 1ms exposure and gain 1 from a Bortle 6 area.
I think for a single shot, the result is impressive in my view, and confirms that the savings to get this (not cheap for me) equipment were worth it.
I am looking forward for the next clear skies to try the alignment, auto guiding and then finally take some deep sky images!

I am really excited about this hobby that I could not afford as a young man, but trying to do it now in my fifties :-)
