Description

This is not a typical image here on AB, but I couldn't resist to share this. This was the first time I have ever seen a sun dog with my own eyes. It is caused by sunlight reflecting off ice crystals in the atmosphere creating an arc at 22 degrees from the sun. I was preparing to go outside to gather up some firewood for the house when I noticed this phenomenon.  Instead of just grabbing my dslr, I opted to send my drone up to get a nice unobstructed view. I had to add the DJI air2s to the equipment data base as there was no listing for it, I guess drones are not the first choice for AP! I aligned the image so that the unavoidable lens flare was alinged with the bottom reflection pointing directly down in the frame so it was less noticable. The outside temperature was -30C with a beautiful sparkle in the air from the ice crystals. This was an unanticipated benefit of living up north.

Hope you enjoy and thanks for looking

Dan.
