Description

Messier 98 (NGC4192) is a barred spiral galaxy, located in the constellation Coma Berenices (the name derives from the Queen Berenice II of Egypt). Its distance is about 44 Mio LJ, it belongs to the Virgo cluster to which our Milky Way belongs as well. Its structure is well defined, its size of about 9.8x2.5 arcmin makes it rather easy to be recorded on cameras on a medium sized telescope. Its velocity relative to Earth is about 1500km/sec. It is also classed as a Seyfert galaxy - bright nuclear core with a supermassive black hole in the center.
