Description

The Whirlpool Galaxy, also known as Messier 51or NGC 5194, is an interacting grand-design spiral galaxy with a Seyfort 2 active nucleus. It lies approximately 25 million light-years away in the constellation Canes Venatici, and was the first galaxy to be classified as a spiral galaxy. M 51 is approximately 76,900 light-years in diameter. It is actively interacting with Galaxy NGC 5195 as can be seen by the stellar bridge between the two.

This is a simple one hour total RGB exposure using my AGOptical iDK 14.5.
