Description

NGC 6992 or Eastern Veil Nebula lies within the Cignus loop. It is usually divided into three main areas: The Eastern Veil: (Caldwell 34) which lies close to the star 52 Cygni. The western veil (Caldwell 33), and the Pickering Wisp Triangle.

The Veil nebula is a cloud of hot, ionised gas. The supernova that gave rise to it exploded between 12000 and 20000 years ago, and the remnants have since expanded to cover an area of about 3x3 degrees, about 6 times the diameter of the full moon.

This image is my capture of NGC 6992 in narrow band HOO and the stars in RGB, both combined and processed with Pixinsight.
