Description

20210718 - (CAS) IC 1848 - The Soul Nebula  What was the experienceWith the current run of Clear Skies, I’m trying to capture as much photons as I can (and losing a lot of sleep)It takes a bit of an organisation to set up 2 Rigs every night, but more importantly, figuring out what and how to capture those coveted DSOsThe night before, the RedCat had captured the Heart Nebula. But what is a heart without a soul. So, this night it was the Soul NebulaConveniently located next to the Heart nebula, but I had to wait until 1am before the Soul nebula clipped my roof, and I didn’t want to drag the mount & scope all across to the other side of the garden 🪴 - I want to grow old before I break my back with hauling this heavy mount and scope every night What’s in the picture(s)IC1848 - The Soul Nebula - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westerhout_5Quote: “Westerhout 5 (Sharpless 2-199, LBN 667, Soul Nebula) is an emission nebula located in Cassiopeia. Several small open clusters are embedded in the nebula: CR 34, 632, and 634[citation needed] (in the head) and IC 1848 (in the body). The object is more commonly called by the cluster designation IC 1848.” How it was doneMount: SW EQ6-R Pro Guiding: ASIAIR Pro, ZWO30F4, ASI120MM (RA guiding only - still haven’t properly connected the mount yet)Scope: WO RedCat 51Camera: ASI183MC ProResolution: 1,98”/pixel, FoV 218’Filter: Optolong L-ExtremeMoon: 66%(+) but already set, Bortle 5/6 SQM 19.60Photons:  Gain 125, cooling -10, 300s, 48x Darks 11x - from a previous sessionProcessing: Siril, Adobe Photoshop (Mac) - Quick&Dirty processing, no sub-selectionAstrobin: IG: @astrowaut What have I learned from thisThe most effort in the whole organisation of capturing the photons, is not so much setting up the mounts, but figuring out what to shoot and how. I’ve configured the rigs in such a way that the RedCat51 captures wide field, and the TS94 narrow-field, both in combination with their respective camera with a resolution of 1.9 - 1.2 arc”/pixel Clear Skies everybody! 🤩✨🔭 #astrophotography #astrophoto #astrophotos#backyardastronomy #astronomy#backyardastrophotography#astrography #astrography_ #backyard#deepsky #nightsky#universe #sky#Nebula #galaxy#deepskyphotography#photographingspace #photooftheday#zwo #williamoptics #redcat51#natgeospace#longexposure#nightphotography#universetoday#nightimages#yourESA#skyphoto#telescope#ASIWEEK

Title: Reprocessed after some soul-searching

Description: 20220106 - Cloudy Nights = Education time 🤩 - IC1848 (CAS) - Soul searching at the start of the year

The data was captured at a time when I had just started with an operational scope, and the processing skills were mainly straight-through processing of the data, no thrills, no real calibration … since then, my processing skills advanced

The focus now is mainly on learning how to improve the color-palette, making pixelmath combinations using formula’s such as fornaxx, etc … This was re-processed using the EZprocessing suite, splitting the stretched image, R as Ha, and a combination of G-B as Oiii, stretched to match the Ha and then applying the HOO fornaxx-formula. Finishing off with curves and local histogram

I managed to get an appealing color-palette, which was the main focus, but stretching the Oiii has introduced quite some graininess, which is probably going to be the next learning step 😎
