Description

Leo’s Triplet Peak (NGC3628 - LEO) - A hamburger missing bite

Too short on integration time, only two short captures over two nights, the clouds decided I wasn’t allowed any more. Grainy in the processing, some artefacts in the background and in the nearby bright star. Framed off-center, in an attempt to, you guessed it, make it into a mosaic with Leo's Triplet Base. This definitely needs more time to be ‘cleaner’ …

NGC 3628 (ARP317), also known as the Hamburger Galaxy or Sarah's Galaxy, is an unbarred spiral galaxy about 35 million light-years away in the constellationLeo. It has an approximately 300,000 light-years long tidal tail. Along with M65 and M66, NGC 3628 forms the Leo Triplet, a small group of galaxies. Its most conspicuous feature is the broad and obscuring band of dust located along the outer edge of its spiral arms, effectively transecting the galaxy to the view from Earth.
