Description

I imaged the Cocoon last year as the first target after getting my QHY268, but I hadn't received my Precise Parts adapter to let me use my field flattener, so my corner stars sucked.  I wanted to rectify that this year.  I decided to go with the focal reducer this time and show more of the star field and the dark nebula "trail".  At first I wasn't too happy with the results.  The dark stuff was standing out and kinda muddy.  I then saw Andy Ermolli's APOD of the target, and I realized that adding some Ha as the background will really help make the dust pop out more.  I'm still not completely happy with it, but imaging from bortle 6 kinda makes these dark dusty subjects hard.  I'm sure if I threw another half dozen hours at it I could improve it, I'm kinda burned out.

A buddy of mine recently moved not far from Sierra Remote Observatories.  I need to get some sort of portable tripod/pier that can support the 1100 mount, and I can spend a week or so visiting and getting some time on these dusty targets.
