Description

I started collection of the Hydrogen background back in Spring, then waited for the Cocoon Nebula to rise higher in the night sky before tackling the RGB in summer.

Looking at the subs from the final night of the project I noticed a distinct patch of brightness in the M39 I wasn't previously aware of, and upon closer look it turned out it was green-colored so I realized, to my delight,  that I've discovered a comet  -- not really though, it was C/2023 E1 discovered back in March.  It was quite fortuitous for the comet to actually be near M39 on that night, one of the few clear nights we've had lately.

Of course then I had to learn quickly how to actually process comet material, never having had to do it before, but it's proved quite manageable with the CometIntegration process and star removal done with StarX.

In the end the picture consisted of 4 layers:

- dusty background
- Ha background
- the comet
- the stars
